Video Capture Solution for European EdTech Brands

Customer Background
A European edtech company specializing in video solutions for remote education and online training. They require a device capable of simultaneously capturing multiple 4K video sources for surgical teaching and multi-camera live streaming scenarios.
Core Challenges
- Must handle 4 4K@60Hz HDMI inputs simultaneously, with total bandwidth exceeding 48Gbps.
- End-to-end latency must be below 50ms to support real-time interactive teaching.
- Supports H.265 hardware encoding with a single-channel bitrate up to 50 Mbps
- The device must comply with electromagnetic compatibility standards for medical environments.
Solutions
We designed a multi-channel video capture solution based on the Realtek RTD2893:
- Video Capture Frontend:4-port HDMI 2.0 input, supports 4K@60Hz 4:4:4
- Encoding Engine:Built-in dual H.265/H.264 encoders supporting multi-stream output
- Network Transmission:Gigabit Ethernet + WiFi 6, supports RTSP/RTMP streaming
To meet medical environment requirements, we adopted shielded housing design and multi-layer PCB stacking to effectively suppress high-frequency interference.
Deployment Process
Confirm video format support, design data stream architecture, and select the core chip.
Complete 8-layer PCB layout, perform high-speed signal integrity analysis, and run EMC pre-simulation.
Produce 5 sets of engineering samples for video quality testing and latency measurement.
CE and FCC certified; production tooling ready; small-batch production started.
Performance Comparison
| Metrics | Goal | Actual |
|---|---|---|
| End-to-End Latency | < 50ms | 42ms |
| Maximum Resolution | 4K@60Hz | 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 |
| Encoding efficiency | H.265 | H.265 Main10 |
| EMC Rating | Class B | Class B (Medical) |
Commercial Revenue
- 4-week delivery cycle to help customers get ready for the start of the fall semester
- The product has received EU medical device certification and is eligible for hospital market entry.
- Signed with 3 European medical schools; projected annual sales of 5000 units
Technical Specifications
This solution uses the Realtek RTD2893 as the core video processing chip, which integrates 4 HDMI 2.0 receivers and H.265/H.264 dual encoders. We designed a dedicated DDR4 memory subsystem to meet buffering requirements for multi-channel 4K video streams. For networking, we employed an Intel I210 Gigabit Ethernet controller with custom Linux drivers to achieve low-latency transmission.
Summary
This project showcases our expertise in high-bandwidth video processing. Through meticulously designed PCB layouts and strict EMC controls, we successfully achieved real-time capture and encoding of 4 4K video streams within a compact device. Our clients have highly praised our delivery speed and technical support.
